Behind the Scenes

April 10, 2014

I know we have posted pictures of behind the scenes from our photoshoots on our Instagram, but we never spoke about our photoshoots; and since we were getting some questions about them, I thought it would be a good idea to give you all some background information.

Most of the time we shoot in Brooklyn, and luckily we had the opportunity to shoot at the one and only Brooklyn Blonde’s studio.  It was a really awesome studio.  It had a DJ booth, a mini bar, very cool antiques, and a killer view of Manhattan from her rooftop.  The space itself was so much fun to be in, that it didn’t make it seem like what we were doing was work at all.  The crew we used, was the same as always.  Photographer, photographer’s assistant, our creative director for the site and his crew, along with hair and makeup, Brooklyn Blonde (wardrobe stylist), and of course the model.  We shot ecommerce shots and lifestyle, both indoors and outdoors.  We got really lucky that it was such a gorgeous day in the BK.  I personally love the photoshoots.  It is one of my favorite parts of my job.  I think it is really amazing to see our ideas come to life, and finally be on our site when the time comes.  Check at our Instagram, @oliviaandjoy for more behind the scenes shots and videos from yesterdays shoot!

Karl’s Must Have

I am a huge fan of the Diptyque candles.  I love the simplicity of the glass containers and their logo.  I also, love the scents. They are so soothing and they really fill up the room nicely, not in an overpowering way.  Karl Lagerfeld, chose the Diptyque Opopanex candle, as one of his Must Haves.  I bought mine at Barney’s, but you will get much more of a variety from their site.  You can find so many other candle scents, along with home fragrances, body and face care, and so much more.  This is a nice treat for yourself, and a great gift as well!

Girl’s Best Friend

April 4, 2014

Who ever said diamonds are not a girl’s best friend was simply mistaken.  On top of that, whoever said jewelry is not a girl’s best friend, did not see this set of memoires, with the most breath-taking images, of the most gorgeous jewelry I have ever seen.  Usually, when I am online shopping on my “bible”, SHOPBOP, I stick to shoes and clothing, but this time was different.  I was looking for a birthday gift for a friend of mine, and I came across this amazing book set, “Books With Style: Jewelry Memoires Book Set.”  This book set focuses on 5 iconic jewelers, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Shinde Jewels, Dior Jewelry, and Codognato.  They take you through the history of fashion, and provide you with the most gorgeous, and the most lavish truly iconic jewelry images.

Simply Sophisticated

March 30, 2014

Fresh air, fresh start, new season, new me (well in some areas).  I just bought a new table for my hall way, right when you walk into my apartment.  Some might think this is a weird area to update, but if you think about it, this area gets the most love.  It’s the first thing anyone sees when they walk into my apartment, and the last when they leave; and I always find myself triple checking my outfit, and making sure I don’t have any food in my teeth.  Out with the old and in with the new, is what I like to say.  So, on top of the new table, I bought this amazing, West Elm Antique Tiled Mirror.  It is rustic, yet elegant, and light, and looks great in the hall way. I am so excited for everyone to see my new addition!

Tea Time

March 24, 2014

vogue_book_1

On the off chance that I am not in the office, and do get a minute to myself, I love to take a little time out of my day to relax, drink some tea (or coffee, whatever you’re into), and scroll through one of my coffee table books.  I am constantly writing emails, blogging, instagramming, and tending to the cyber world, that I think it is very important to give yourself some time to unwind, and connect with something outside of your computer and IPhone.  I am a very visual person, so I love coffee table books.  To me they are an adult version of a picture book.  Before getting into fashion and handbags, I was very interested in interior designing.  When I was getting ready for college and had to pick a major, I was sold on Interior Design.  Once I found out that Interior Design was much more then picking out furniture and colors schemes, and was more like an Architecture major, I decided to go with Fashion Design instead.  Although, I am happy with my major choice, I never lost the love to decorate a space.  “Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens, People”, is a great book that looks into the homes and gardens of very well known celebrities in fashion, art, music, and society.  They reveal never before seen images and open up the world to places that some of the most creative and influential people in these industries call home.

What’s on Your Coffee Table?

March 11, 2014

LouisVuittonBirthOfModernLuxury

Recently, I’ve been slacking with my coffee table book collection.  With these random spurts of warm weather, I’ve been so into revamping my apartment, and better yet, my wardrobe; that I haven’t had time to tend to other obsessions of mine.  My friend recently suggested I add, “Louis Vuitton: The Birth of Modern Luxury” to my collection.  The original book was published in 2004 and discussed the rise of the world’s most popular luxury company.  Now, with the updated version, it has an additional 20 pages, and it discusses all categories that this company has taken over, from ready-to-wear, shoes, accessories, etc.  Everyone knows Louis Vuitton, and some are lucky enough to have something LV in your collection, and if you don’t, you definitely aspire to.  Louis Vuitton is classic, timeless, and luxurious. This book gives you a great insight into the world of Louis Vuitton and everything in it.

Bad A**

Even though there are many museums and exhibits in NYC, I tend to gravitate towards FIT’s exhibits.  I think they are insightful, interesting, and always so much fun.  The last exhibit I went to at FIT, was on the fashion in the 1930′s, and I really did love it.  This coming exhibit, however, is an exhibit that I am dieing to see, “Beyond Rebellion: Fashioning The Biker Jacket.”  Ask any girl, they will agree, that a leather biker jacket is a MUST HAVE in everyone’s wardrobe.  This exhibit opens March 4th, and is set on my calendar.  This exhibit traces the revolution of the leather biker jacket, from utilitarian times to today’s fashion, being “cool” and “fashionable.”  This exhibit ends April 5, 2014.  I highly suggest anyone in NYC take some time to see such a great exhibit that these students put together.

#Throwback

I know I said I love NYC in the winter, but I am ready for the sun and warm weather.  I am thinking that maybe if I start preparing for the summer, that it will come sooner.  So, in my attempt to bring on the warm weather, I have began my summer transition.  Since I can’t really do that with my clothes just yet, I decided to start in my apartment.  For the most part, I keep everything neutral, and play with colors in my accent pieces; like my throw blankets, pillows, bath towels, etc. My favorite place to shop for my apartment is West Elm.  They always have fun things, reasonably priced, and are always throwing great sales, making  it easier to stay on top of the home decor trends.  One of my summer transition pieces is my new Chain Lock Throw in the “light pool” color.  I can already feel the warm weather!
