NYC Classic Twist

Being a New Yorker, I find myself to be very knowledgeable of one of NYC’s most famous foods, pizza.  I have had the best pizza around and find myself being very selective, and protective of our food!  However, sometimes change is good, and it can be fun to “re-invent” the wheel, sort of speak.  Of course, my go to girl, Rachael Ray, had her twist (no pun intended) on this NYC classic, that you can check out here.  I went to once of my favorites, Trader Joe’s, and used there garlic herb pizza dough, pizza sauce, and chicken sausage.  You can pick and choose your flavors and ingredients, but I thought this was a fun party snack, and fun twist on a classic we all know and love.

Now that it is getting warmer out, I know I should be gearing up for bikini season, but there are some things that just don’t go away with the winter, like my sweet tooth.  I am always on the hunt for some not so guilty, guilty pleasures.  I came across this carrot and raisin cookie recipe on, The Beauty BeanI found them easy to make, guilt free, and most importantly delicious.  These are great for a midnight snack, or even a fun dessert option for a get together.  Check out The Beauty Bean for this recipe, along with great tips and tricks on fashion, beauty, fitness, and much more!

Humpday Happy Hour

We all know I love taking full advantage of living in this fun city, and I try to check out as many spots as I can.  Whether its a new exhibit, bar, or restaurant, I think it’s important to know what this city has to offer.  It’s been a long week (and it’s not even over yet), so a few of us gals are going to check out a new spot that just opened earlier this month, “The Roof,” at the Viceroy hotel.  With yummy drinks, indoor/outdoor areas, and a breath taking view of Central Park, makes this a new Spring must see, for all my New Yorkers out there.

Lucky Leftovers

Now that the green dust has settled, your pot of gold is gone, and your leprechaun can finally rest,  you are left with some tacky St. Paddy’s day decorations and Irish Soda Bread.  Thanks to Rachel Ray, I won’t have to throw out all my left over loafs!  Unfortunately, I am unable to watch her show everyday, but I keep up with her yummy recipes on her site, Rachel Ray.  I came across her Drunken Irish Soda Bread French Toast, which, lets be honest, sounds as amazing as it tastes.  I made it this morning and it was so delicious, but because I will be in Florida in two weeks, I decided to make it slightly healthier, replacing full eggs with egg whites, Stevia instead of sugar, and almond milk, instead of milk or cream.  You can play around with the recipe to satisfy your taste buds.  Let me know what you did with your left over Irish Soda Bread!

Some of you may have never heard of these little suckers, but “Humbug” mints are one of my absolute favorites when I visit London.  I always make sure I don’t come home without them.  I, of course, did not forget to bring some home after my last London trip, but needless to say, my stash will be gone before you know it.  I recently found out that a very good friend of mine is moving to London and I can only see this is a sign.  Now, I have access, 24/7, to one of my favorites!!  Don’t judge…it’s the little things that count!

Movie Night Munchies

March 6, 2014

I am huge movie buff, and usually I don’t mind curling up on my couch, with my dog, and a glass of wine, and unwinding to one of my faves; but sometimes it is nice to have some company.  Tonight I will be hosting movie night and I will be trying a new twist on a movie night classic, popcorn.  I will be attempting to make Rachel Ray’s, “Buffalo Popcorn.”  I got this from her website and am very excited to try it.  It seems to be very easy, only needing olive oil, popcorn (obviously), butter, hot sauce, and chives, although I might keep the chives out.  I think this will be an instant crowd pleaser, I’ll let you know!

What’s The Skinny?

February 26, 2014

Maybe I’m being a little pushy for warm weather to get here already, but I just can’t help it!  One of my favorite summer drinks is a Skinny Margarita.  They are so easy to make, choose your favorite clear premium tequila, add some orange juice, and a little Grand Marnier, and you’re all set! It’s light, refreshing, and always does the trick.  I recently ordered one at dinner the other night.  First one I have had since last summer, and I must say, it hit the spot!  Now, I am on my summer kick even more so then before!

Sunday Salsa

Being that I am on this warm weather kick, I am going to keep the momentum going, and this time the transition is happening in the kitchen with my Mango Salsa.  I know I can make this any time of the year really, but it’s best in the summer, and brings back great memories.  I keep it very simple, diced mangoes, chopped red bell pepper, cilantro, a jalapeno pepper, and a green onion.  Throw in a tablespoon of lemon juice and lime juice and voila!  You have yourself some delicious, summery, mango salsa.

Fashion Week Hot Spot

With everything going on during Fashion Week, sometimes it is nice to be somewhere not so sceney and chaotic.  Sometimes it is nice to have a more relaxed meal, where you can enjoy your company, and actually hear your conversation.  One spot where you can get a calmer ambiance is, Whitehall Bar + Kitchen.  Known for their very fashionable crowd and relaxed vibe, this West Village, London inspired restaurant and bar, is a definite hot spot a night of unwinding after a long day at Fashion Week.

Who’s Ready For Some Foodball?

February 1, 2014

My friends and I have decided to throw a nice, semi low key, Super Bowl party this year.  We were much more organized this time around, choosing a location ahead of time and pre-planning who is bringing/cooking what.  I have volunteered to make a few of my staple dishes, that are not only health conscious, but more importantly, keep the men quiet and satisfied. I was really proud and excited to showcase my dishes until my friend decided to out do everyone with her “snack stadium” idea she found on Pinterest!  Granted it probably won’t look as good as the one in the picture, I am still pretty jealous I didn’t come up with this idea!  There are so many different ways and versions of a snack stadium, but either way I think it will be pretty cool to have our very own on Sunday!
