I am a big foodie.  I am always looking for new restaurants, new recipes, and as nervous as it sometimes makes me, new foods.  I also love cooking and trying to satisfy my tastes buds as if I was at a new restaurant.  I was watching Rachel Ray recently and I decided to take a look at her website.  Among some really great recipes I came across one that I automatically had to try, spinach artichoke potato skins.  Not only do I love spinach artichoke dip, I also love potato skins,  so this was a perfect match.  They came out great and I highly suggest all you spinach artichoke dip lovers to try this.  If you love potato skins, but maybe prefer a different topping, you can check out Rachel Ray’s other potato skin recipes here.

Hump Day Happy Hour

raines-law-room

When living in the city, you find yourself falling into a pattern, going to the same restaurants, the same bars, and sometimes you just need to spice it up a little.  Tonight, I am checking out a new spot for me, “The Raines Law Room“.  I have heard great things about this Chelsea speakeasy and I am very excited to see what it is all about.  Upon entering, you are immediately submersed into the twenties era.  Surrounded by velvet couches, extreme twenties wall decor, and a buzzer next to your couch to call your waitress whenever need be.  I am very excited to check out this new spot and will be back with some reveiws!

HamPotatoQuiche_IBMH

The day after Christmas I always find myself stuck with the same ingredients, eggs, potatoes, and some kind of meat.  I hate throwing them away, so I am always looking for good leftover recipes.  A friend recently told me about the blog, “It Bakes Me Happy,” and I have to say, Emily, the girl behind this great blog, has some really delicious recipes.  I happened to like her ham and potato quiche .  It is easy to make, quick, and tastes delicious.  You can have this for any meal of the day.  I highly suggest checking out her blog for this recipe, as well as, so many other yummy one!

Deck the Halls…DIY

wine-glass-ornament-candle-centerpiece

Every New York City girl is on a budget.  If they say they aren’t, they’re lieing!  Being one of the NYC girl’s on a budget, this time of year can be very tricky; but thanks to Pintrest, I have found ways to make it through this holiday season, while still being able to buy everyone’s gifts and be ready for my annual holiday party!  There are many ways you can cut costs on food, alcohol, and decorations.  Being that I am a bit OCD when it comes to decorations, I always put more effort into this department.  My favorite DIY I came across for this year is the wine glass centerpieces.  I went to the dollar store and bought plain, solid color, Christmas tree ornaments, as well as big red wine glasses, and candles.  All you do is display the glasses upside down, with the ornaments inside, place a candle on top, and vuala!  You now have yourself a very affordable, very chic, centerpiece.

Humpday Happy Hour

Brooklyn-Winery

What better way to celebrate humpday then happy hour at the Brooklyn Winery.  Being an avid wine drinker, I am always looking for new spots, where I can try new wines, as well as, be visually amused with my surrounding.  This wonderful Wednesday night I will be sipping on some Malbec and loving life.  I love going to the Brooklyn Winery, not only for their great wine selection, but I love the decor and the feel of the whole place.  It is rustic, but warm, and I find it to be truly classic.  It is such a relaxed environment, where you can actually have a conversation and don’t have to scream over anyone else.  They also have a great selection of beer and the food is great.  I would highly suggest this spot for a first date or even for a quick drink with friends.  You can never go wrong here.

Tradition is something I like to stick to, not only because I am superstitious, but I think it is nice to keep old ones going and new ones as well.  When it comes to cooking, this time of year, I tend to keep it very traditional, but I do like to add a new cocktail every season.  This year I went to the Holiday Queen herself, Martha Stewart, for some ideas.  I loved her “Berry Little Cocktail”.  It was a good change up to my favorite, the Mimosa, with a little berry twist.  The fresh cranberries and grapefruit vodka add the perfect touch, that make this my holiday cocktail and my new tradition.

Hard 8 bbq

Before I left for Dallas, I made a little list of things I wanted to do while visiting this fun city for the first time.  I didn’t get to ride the mechanical bull like I wanted to, but I did get to have some real, authentic BBQ!  I was told I had to try Hard Eight BBQ, they are known for their delicious flavors, authenticity, and the closest we will get to good, home cooked BBQ.  Hard Eight is a family owned business that has been around for 10 years.  They pride themselves on keeping their flavors unforgettable and as authentic as possible, with no waiters, waitresses, or hostesses.  You are served right there, at your table, by the person who cooked your food (the pit master), and you are served fast!  My favorite was the jalapeno cream corn and the shrimp poppers.  Hard Eight BBQ is a must try when you’re in Dallas, but please proceed with caution!  This place has forced me some extra time at the gym!

dark-stormy-death-punch_650x366

Since this is my favorite time of the year, I always have my girls over for some sushi and drinks before our fun Halloween night out.  This year I spent extra time making sure everything was Halloween themed and extra spooky, even our drinks.  This year, the Halloween cocktail of choice is the Dark and Stormy Death Punch, that I found on “Food & Wine.”  It definitely takes some time and effort to perfect this creepy cocktail, but it is well worth it!  Check out this recipe and so many others on www.foodandwine.com.

mulled-wine

Now that the leaves are changing color, the air is cold and crisp, and the city streets are filled with really cute sweaters; I can’t help, but get in the Fall spirit.  The colors, the clothes, I love it all!  This time of year is one of my favorites, I embrace it completely and love every second of it (except the part where my closet space gets really tight with my Fall wardrobe)! It’s ok though, it just gives me more of a reason to go out and show off my Fall faves!  Another reason why I love this time of year so much is the Mulled Wine!  Being a big red wine connoisseur, I really enjoy the zesty twist on a classic glass of pinot noir.  Plus, the cinnamon sticks are so much fun!  If you’re in the NYC area and want to try a classic Mulled Wine, The Bowery Hotel is great and who knows what celeb you’ll spot enjoying NYC in the Fall!

Humpday Happy Hour

bca-cocktails-600x450

In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, many restaurants and bars have created pink colored cocktails to add to their menus and are donating a percentage of the proceeds to the different breast cancer charities.  On PeopleStyleWatch.com, they featured 3 different bars/restaurants that are participating in this “Drink Pink” movement and I just loved this idea.  I think this is a great way to get people involved and more willing to help.  We always make sure to do our part this month, and now I have even more of a reason to attend tonight’s happy hour(you can google “drink pink participants” for bars/restaurants that are participating in a city near you) Everyone can do their part, so call your girls, get together, and DRINK PINK!
